Legal and Compliance Specialist

Provide legal and compliance oversight, advise on regulatory requirements, manage risk and litigation, and approve company contracts for BAIC South Africa.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in various committees and interact with legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct audits and develop risk reports on how to mitigate identified risks.
  • Analyse emerging compliance issues and assist with the implementation of controls.
  • Provide assistance and advice to leadership on new policies or changes in policies.
  • Interpret and clarify changes in legislation and regulations.
  • Submit reports and proposals to leadership on risks and compliance matters.
  • Support all departments with legal and compliance services.
  • Review all legal documents of the company and provide guidance.
  • Participate on the Board of Directors and other related committees as a legal professional.
  • Conduct training and create awareness of legislative matters.
  • Complete ad-hoc tasks at the request of leaders.

Education and Experience

  • LLB qualification with completed Articles and a Postgraduate Certificate in Compliance.
  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience in a similar role within the automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in a multinational company is highly advantageous.
  • Membership with the Compliance Institute of South Africa or another legal institute in South Africa is highly advantageous.

Competencies

  • Ability to coordinate compliance issues at an organizational level.
  • Strong contract drafting skills for commercial agreements.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable compliance and risk standards and management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
