Johannesburg, South Africa – November 2025 – BAIC South Africa has officially handed over a fleet of 20 premium SUVs to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in support of transport and logistics operations during the G20 Summit hosted in South Africa.
The fleet, comprising the BAIC X55 Plus and the newly launched B30 SUV, will facilitate the movement of high-level delegates and officials throughout the summit. The partnership underscores BAIC's growing contribution to South Africa's mobility landscape and the company's ongoing collaboration with national stakeholders to deliver efficient, reliable, and modern transport solutions.
During the handover ceremony held in Pretoria, BAIC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting South Africa's role on the global stage. The occasion highlighted the brand's pride in contributing to a significant international event with vehicles that combine innovation, comfort, and confidence to meet both local and global expectations.
LOCALLY BUILT EXCELLENCE – THE B30 TAKES THE LEAD
Several units of the BAIC B30, the brand's latest SUV, were among the vehicles presented to DIRCO. Assembled alongside the X55 Plus at BAIC South Africa's advanced manufacturing plant in Gqeberha, the B30 represents the newest milestone in the brand's local manufacturing journey and strengthens BAIC's localisation strategy.
Developed in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the Coega facility remains one of South Africa's largest automotive assembly operations. Adding the B30 to the production line expands BAIC's local manufacturing footprint, bolsters supply chain resilience, and contributes to job creation and skills development across the Eastern Cape.
The local assembly of the B30 follows its national launch and reinforces BAIC's strategy to deepen localisation while delivering vehicles built in South Africa, for South Africa. The investment also positions the Coega plant as a potential export hub for the African continent in the coming years.
SUPPORTING A GLOBAL EVENT, STRENGTHENING LOCAL PRIDE
By supplying a dedicated fleet for the G20 Summit, BAIC demonstrates its commitment to South Africa's development and global integration. The B30 and X55 Plus embody intelligent design, advanced technology, and proven capability – qualities well suited to the demands of a high-profile global event.
The collaboration between BAIC South Africa and DIRCO further illustrates the value of coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors. It showcases how international partnerships can bolster local industry growth, mobility innovation, and broader economic participation.
